ByDefault's MCP server lives at https://www.bydefault.so/api/mcp. Open Settings → MCP to copy it, along with the setup for each client. MCP comes with every plan.
You don't need a key. Your client sends you to ByDefault to approve the connection:
- Sign in, if ByDefault asks you to.
- Under Access, keep Whole company or pick the projects this client may open.
- Click Connect.
The client now shows under Connected in Settings → MCP.
What you can ask
Your client sees what your dashboard shows and works with the content agent's tools.
- Read your results. Your visibility on every prompt, why each model recommends a brand, the pages it cites and the searches it runs. It also reads your competitors, content gaps, articles and Publishing setup, and AI crawler traffic once Analytics is connected.
- Track more. It adds prompts, topics and competitors. New prompts count toward your plan's tracked prompts and run on your models right away.
- Write and edit articles. It starts a draft from a content gap or a title, edits it, sets its target keyword, runs the GEO check, and adds images, charts, screenshots, diagrams and tweets. It can run code in the article's sandbox with the keys you saved in Settings → Agent keys.
- Publish. It previews a publish, publishes, or takes an article down, on the blogs you set up in Publishing. It can also change your Publishing setup.
An article's first publish uses one article credit, the same as in the app. Billing and team changes stay in the app. See Plans and billing.
After you connect, Settings → MCP suggests prompts written for your brand, such as:
- How visible am I in AI answers this week?
- Pick my best content gap and draft the article.
See it in the editor
A client's edits go straight into the article. If you have the article open, you watch them land: the editor marks the part that just changed, and a pill names the section when it's out of view. The Assistant tab shows the client's name, such as "Claude is editing", until it's done. The mark clears on its own after two minutes with no activity.
Manage connections
A connection acts as you, with your role in each project it reaches. Settings → MCP lists your clients under Connected. Click Disconnect to cut one off, and it loses access right away. To change which projects a client reaches, disconnect it and connect again.
